Bloggin-Ads - Weekly Review 11/23/07 to 11/29/07

Bloggin-Ads 2 Comments »

WOW! Can you believe that it has been 3 weeks since Bloggin-Ads.com opened? I gotta say that before I opened this blog, I really didn’t think I would make it anywhere by typing only blog reviews and ramblings every day. I guess I was wrong because I actually beat the goal I set myself on last week’s review.

My goal was to reach 80 total subscribers and I guess I have made it. I can’t thank you guys enough for giving my blog a chance. I hope it is actually good reading for you guys, but if there are problems, please do tell me. I can take any criticism you have for me including “Your blog sucks!”

Anyways, here’s the posts for that I have made for this past week and I hope some of you will take the time to read over some of them if you’ve missed it.

*Please Note* - I start my weeks on Fridays because I am a full-time student from Monday thru Thursday. I hope this isn’t a problem for some of you.

Additions to Bloggin-Ads.com:

  • CommentLuv is now implemented on this blog. What it does is it gets your RSS via the URL you provided on the comment and posts the latest post you have on your blog. I want to give as much exposure to other blogs as possible and I hope there will be more comments now that I installed this plugin.

As for the contest I ended on 11/19, I finally have a chance to post the results, but there were only two subscribers. I don’t know if I mixed up anything or if there’s a problem, but because of only 2 subscribers (via email), I’m going to start the contest again with new rules.

Japan Is Such A Wonderful Place For A Blogger

Japan girls

Background - Neil Duckett’s About Page

Neil Duckett was born in Austrailia, but he loves to travel and so he moves around the world to live and experience certain customs. He moved from Australia to Brisbane, from Brisbane to Melbourne, and after 7+ years at Melbourne, he decided moving to Japan.

Now I’m not going to be racist here, but he’s not an Asian person, but he decided to move to Japan. If I were to move there, I wouldn’t even be able to handle the Japanese language even though I’m Chinese. Neil is now working as an International existance and well, he loves it. As long as a person loves what he or she does and how his or her life is, that’s all that matters. Happiness is what a person really seeks for.

It’s just a dang blog about a blogger’s personal life!

Yea, most people would think that personal blogs are not worth the time because it has nothing to teach. Well, you’re very wrong there because Neil’s blog is personal, but it does not talk about off-topic stuff like “Oh I broke up with my girlfriend today” or “Today I failed my exam.” Instead, Neil’s blog brings out the joys of Japan and what Japan really has to offer. Most of us average people would probably not visit Japan in a lifespan, so this blog brings out what we want to know about Japan.

I do admit, I have visited Japan on a tour with my family about 2 years ago and I gotta say it was a heck of a great time. With nice weather and great food and shopping experiences and not to mention BEAUTIFUL women, my family is planning to go again (North Japan this time).

mew.PNGBesides talking about Japan and what happens in Japan, Neil still makes some money by putting up ads. Some of you may not know, but he owns 50% of Million Euro Wiki, the European version of Million Dollar Wiki. We may think that he’s not making it big time, but living in Japan costs a lot and I know this because everything is SOOOOOOO expensive!

Make sure you check out Neil’s blog and subscribe to his RSS feed because you wouldn’t have to visit Japan after reading his daily posts. He’s even having a competition where you will have a chance to win his 10Megapixel Canon Digital Camera!

Unique Blog Designs Aren’t Very Unique Anymore

unique blog designs

I’m sure most of you have had problems finding a blog design or template, but some pay to receive a unique design. A start off point for a newbie blogger should always show the viewer that he or she is showing some sort of professionalism. The statement is brought out with a blogger’s blog design/template.

There are a lot of services on the net that provides help with blog templates and designs, but it seems like every theme just looks the same now. There isn’t much of a variety now after Unique Blog Designs re-designed John Chow and Jeremy’s blog. Blogs seem to go towards the same 2 or 3-column, footer, and header design.

Header

Footer

shoemoney theme

For about $500 a pop, I would say getting a theme that looks the similar to another blog’s is something I would not want. These type of themes have been so popular that you may even search Google and download them for free. Of course that defeats the whole purpose of a unique blog, but most blogs seem to look the same now. Below this post, I have included a theme that Neil Duckett created similar to Unique Blog Design’s strategies.

Here’s a quick Tag game for all the blogs that share similar patterns:

Well, I’m not going to bang Nate Whitehill and his crew on the head and make enemies, but blog designs really shouldn’t cost so much. Most of us new bloggers simply can’t afford something like that and it seems like Alexander is on my side. Blogs are starting to look more and more alike, so maybe changing the pricing will help some of us? Of course I’m not just basing this post on Unique Blog Designs because there have been new blog design services popping up everywhere.

If you haven’t already noticed, there are a lot of free Wordpress blog themes all over Google. Bloggin-Ads.com is currently using a free theme and I’m sure many of you can find your own :)

WP-Ban Plugin Messing With My Visitors!

blog problems

Well, I’m not sure if this is happening to all of you or not, but I have just gotten word that some of you guys may be having a redirection problem on my blog.

I recently just put the WP-Ban Plugin to use and it seems like it’s not working as expected. Bloggin-Ads was having a problem with this stupid spammer, so I decided to block the IP. Well that was a bad idea because I just got a message from a tech guy at a different blog stating that he gets redirected to my “BANNED” page, which shows a “Next On The Ban List” picture.

Anyways, I just want you guys to know I deeply apologize for this and that because of the problem and me not posting the contest results, I’m going to start the contest again this Friday.

- WHAT!? I already subscribed to you!

Well, I’m going to give those users (there were only 2 via RSS e-mail) ad spots anyways because they shouldn’t be penalized for my problem.

Just stay tuned for this Friday because that’s when I’ll post the Contest info :)
