blog tips

Blogging doesn’t just come in one night of work. What I mean by that is you won’t receive thousands of visitors just with a little output of work. It takes time to achieve this goal. You don’t even know if what you’re doing is correct and following tips by other bloggers may even put you in a bad position, but most actually do help. You must know what you’re doing and give it some experimentation. I’m not telling you to read the tips below and follow it 100%, since it may be wrong, but I do want you to put some thought into it. Doing all wrong will hurt you and your image.

I have had 5 different blogs in the course of about one year and I continue to slowly gain more viewers each day. Today, I currently have one blog at Simple Zack. Over this period of time, like every blogger, I have researched ways in which I can make my blog gain more traffic. I have tested many of these tips and some have turned out to be efficient, while others have turned out to be failures. Eventually, I came to the understanding that the most fundamental and obvious tips were the most helpful. Yes, pinging can get your name out there, but your content is what keeps your name going strong and steady. Here are the most important blogging tips I have come across:

1. Post – Above all other blogging tips, posting consistently is the key. Once you quit blogging for a short period of time, traffic is lost. There will be times when your brain goes dead and you have no clue what to write about. This is when Google comes in handy. Read a news article or watch a new YouTube video and create a post about it. Even if the article or video doesn’t coincide with your theme, posting is better than not posting.

2. Be creative - Go against the crowd and stand out. Dare to be different. Write about something unique and unheard of to grab your reader’s attention. Just like newspapers and magazines, thinking of an interesting and eye-catching title for your posts is very important as well but make sure that readers can relate to you too. Getting too creative or crazy can create confusion and the reader won’t understand you.

3. Make friends – You can’t just expect other people to comment and view your blog without you commenting and viewing theirs too. I know it can get annoying sometimes, but by commenting back and forth you create discussions that keep people coming back. There are thousands of other ways to make friends online as well, through forums, online communities, blog communities, etc. Be sure to include a link to your site every time you comment on another site.

4. Visually appealing – Nobody wants to look at a site littered with ads and unattractive designs. Make your blog appealing by applying a crisp design and few, but well placed ads. When posting, use colors, *symbols!*, pictures, videos, CAPS, lists, etc. But beware; too much can be bad.

5. RPG – Everyday thousands of people start a blog hoping to gain thousands of visitors immediately. This doesn’t happen. If you’ve ever played a Role Playing Game, you know that the character you create starts at the bottom and you have to overcome many obstacles to reach the top level. Similar to blogging, you need to work hard and take your time to gain a high level of bloggers. Just think of it as a game and make it fun.

6. Ask questions – Why wouldn’t you ask questions? Doesn’t it just make sense? By questioning the reader, doesn’t that mean you making him or her think? And by making him or her think, doesn’t that also mean you’ll be more interesting, get more comments, and generate more traffic?

tips-exclamation.jpgThese important tips aren’t all of course. There are many other ways to gain traffic, but some can be temporary. For example, if you add a bunch of people on a blog community as your friend, you may generate a large amount of visits in one day, but if your content and appeal is not worth looking at, you will not have a long-term amount of visitors.

Technorati
, Twitter, Feedburner, Pings and so on, are all important tools for blogging as well, but without uniqueness, consistency, devotion, and appearance, your blog will go nowhere. Create a blog that you would make someone want to visit everyday. Post about things you love, get influence from your favorite blogs and bloggers, and don’t give up.

You’ve done all these things listed and you still have little visitors. Keep working at it. Half of new bloggers quit within the first month, because they have too high of expectations in too little time. Be sure to stay motivated and determined to achieve your blogging status goal. It will take time and effort, and in the end it will be extremely worth it.

Thanks for the excellent tips. I’m bloggin for many years but all my blogs where absolutely personal, rather for my friends and family. Now my new blog (that started on December 2007) is something different. While it’s still personal I write with the bigger audience in mind.

That’s why I find your tips so inspiring, I just hope that turning them into “reality” will help me to become a real blogger.

Heh as a long time mmorpg fan I like the RPG analogy. If I started out at level 1, I wonder what level I’m at now :)

I think this point is probably the most important one really. I was looking at some old posts on Sphinn (social news for IM / seo) recently and I was saddenened to see so many good posts from blogs that are now dead just a few months later. So many people give up too soon - you gotta hang in there as it DOES get easier once you’ve gained that small initial following.

Hm…cannot agree with this part “Once you quit blogging for a short period of time, traffic is lost.”

I had major failure with hosting, when i got in situation that my hosts servers started to THINKING,and deleted my blog and account,”thinking” that i had less than 6 visits in that month :D:D I had them in thousands, and their first excuse was that they shutted me because I had TOO MANY VISITORS so i hitted the barrier of 6GB traffic that month, and it was only 12th in the month.
More than a month passed when my blog and address was back again, with some old backup (i didn’t have more than 40 posts). Second day of my blog I reached 1000 visitors a day.

Also BACKUP OFFEN, BACKUP AFTER 2 POSTS!!!! MOST IMPORTANT THING.DO NOT RELAY ON HOSTER.

Nice list. But just to make it seven, I think you should add guest posting like you just did.

I made some before and I plan to do it again since I found them effective.

Thanks!

@Adamsky - I’m glad my tips helped. I hope all goes well for you.

@Caroline - It really is just like an RPG and I think you’d be a level 99! Thanks for the comment

@cvrle77 - I guess that may be true. I think it depends on your previous amount of visits. When your popular enough, it doesn’t matter if you take a break from blogging.

@guardian angel - Guest posting is great. Do you want to guest post for me, or me for you, eh?

@Jay - hahaha!

For all the rest, thank you!

“There will be times when your brain goes dead and you have no clue what to write about”

-And to come out of this blue you must register yourself with some paidreview site, they will provide you all -An Idea about post, topic, product and off course money to compensate.
