I think that most bloggers are niche bloggers because that way they can be truly useful to their readers. If you are just rambling about a different subject every week with no strings to tie them together then what is the difference between a blog and a pin-up board? I think when it comes down to it… a blogger with a plan and goals will be successful in the end and those who are just aiming everywhere will just waste ammunition.

I think you can fall somewhere in the middle and still be effective. what I have found is that many people just post all over and the majority of their posts are horrible. they literally have no value to the site they are posting on. to me these posters are completely useless and only self promoting.
The key is to be able to actually contribute while at the same time being able to drive people back to your site also. so you have to be prolific and dedicated, BUT ALSO MAKE QUALITY posts. And that means TIME. So I would say it is more like being a calm, cool, intelligent, introspective, sniper, who is willing to sit and wait as long as it takes to get the job done.
