Many of you still wish to make money online, but it seems like it’s difficult for some of us including me. In the blogosphere, making money is a 50/50 chance thing where you either pass or fail. There are some that get in between once in a while, but end up passing or failing just like the others. It wasn’t until this past year that blogging was basically a way to express a person’s mind, but now it seems like everyone wants to become a blogger. The main objective of that is just to enjoy financial freedom and get the easy way out. Getting the easy way out is not always that simple for some of us. Learning and studying all the concepts is what makes a person successful, but even then you might not enjoy the dream of financial freedom through making money online.
If blogging is not working for you, then maybe you should take other steps that would give you some sort of financial freedom. Go get your education and major in something that people will want to hire you for. The job I’m talking about is becoming a designer.
I know that all of you are probably wondering how a designer could make money, but if you think about it, the word “designer” is just a broad topic that consists of many other sub-topics under it. These range from clothing designer to house designers, but it can also be art. Of “art” is a whole different thing to some of you, but if you think about it, to become a designer needs some sort of artistic skill and to become a artist, one must know some designing skills too. Although this post could be elaborated longer, I’m going to focus on web designing.
Web designing takes a lot of work and it’s not a easy task that people can just accomplish in a blink of the eye. With proper education, a person might think they’re ready, but these type of skills don’t really come from education. Of course you do need a degree in this field if you want to succeed, but the main thing is natural artistic skills. Without the natural ability to design something with art, it will be difficult to complete any type of task. Believe me, I’ve experienced this field because I used to be an amateur artist, but I never focused on it and therefore I gave up. Web designing is a lot easier than the type of work Picasso used to do, but it still takes a great mind to come up with something different. People pay for what is different.

As soon as you get into the web designing business, it’ll probably take some time before people come to you for jobs. If I were a new designer, I would probably sponsor away a few free designs to get myself publicized first before I start promoting the design services. Web designing services do not come cheap and that usually turns away lower income people or people that don’t want to fork out that much money. The problem there is that a designer needs to earn a living from the services and even though I do agree that prices should be lower, the web designing industry is pretty much up there in price-wise. There will always be jobs for a web designer because the Internet is going to stay forever. As years go by, people invent new techniques and strategies to make things even better than it already is. With so much increase in users, companies, stores, and huge corporations are starting to seek web designers to create an online site.
A good example of a very successful web designer or should I say team is Nate Whitehill and his group at Unique Blog Designs. Although I’ve posted about Unique Blog Designs before, I think people might have considered it a post that is suppose to “slam” Nate and his crew. Well, whatever you guys think of it, I’m still going to say that UBD is one expensive ass design service site (LOL!). Judging by the high costs, Nate and his team is making it big and who knows, they might become millionaires after huge corporations start purchasing the services.
So before you think about blogging for money, you should consider becoming a web designer instead. The demand for web designing services is so much higher than selling an ad spot on your current blog. Do anyone disagree with me here?

As a web designer with an obvious bias, the key advantages about doing freelance design work is that you get to build websites, make decent money as your core income, and still launch blogs and other projects on the side (usually without having to hire outside help). Many have found success this way like 37 Signals and Eden Creative (who run Freelance Switch and other sites for creatives).
I think even Chow says that low percentage way to make money. If you know your way around a site, I would personally build a B2C or B2B online service.

Well said, I wish I knew how to design websites. It would save me a lot of time and money if I could just whip up and customize themes for myself, besides having the ability to make custom sites for clients. This post makes me want to go back to school and take a few web design courses.

Hi Mike,
I agree with you that there is a high demand for web designer now especially those that can come up with good wordpress theme. I am currently working on changing my blog theme to give it a professional look. As such, I have been searching online for the past few days for an affordable designer but I have not found any that I can trust.
I did check out unique blog design but their price seems to be on the high side for someone like me that is just starting out. Anyway, the search continues.
