By mentioning it again and again, it means that you should know about this somewhere in your head. What I have mentioned a lot is that the blogosphere has grown so much now with hundreds and thousands of new blogs popping up each and every single day. You’re bound to miss a whole lot of great bloggers since the blogosphere is so massive and you would probably be lucky to even view about 10 new blogs per day. So many new blogs and so many new faces are bound to cause a lot of mental and physical problems. You’re basically breaking yourself in half if you let it get to you.
As a blogger and a human, you’re more than likely going to lose some motivation when you see that others are doing better than you. There are so many new blogs trying to pull up their popularity that only so many can squeeze through at times. I agree that I’m not the best blogger in the blogosphere because I’ve been seeing newer blogs doing much better than me. No I’m not talking about the ones that still have the Entrecard widget attached….I’m talking about the blogs that are just pure great content.
The Blogging economy is basically the same as the real life economy changing in front our eyes. Gas prices are soaring up high and that is changing prices in daily purchases including food. When the blogging economy changes, it means that a lot of blogs are raising the standards for newcomers. Now it actually costs money to bring yourself and your blog up to standards while it was free just a year ago.
This has caused blogs to just grow out of no where and with much success too. These type of blogs basically paid their way up to fame, but once they’re up there, they wouldn’t need to worry much anymore. With blogs paying to gain success, there are always blogs that gain success purely on their own. I’m sure you’ve visited a blog or two that just provides extraordinarily great content. There are a few of these A+ apples out there that just knows what they’re doing ![]()
Now because of all these successful blogs in the blogosphere, many of us tend to lose motivation and dedication to blogging. There’s nothing wrong with this since it’s a natural thing that happens mentally. You could be doing the same thing as a different blogger, but not grow as quick. There could be many things you’re doing wrong, but no one is perfect, which means the blogger you’re comparing to may also be doing quite a few things wrong.
I have personally lost motivation and dedication to blogging on Bloggin-Ads many many times. There are a lot of blogs that just grew with me since the beginning of Entrecard, but a lot of other blogs also grew. I have been watching the stats and the popularity of some of these blogs (not the ones with Entreacrd) and I have noticed that they have grown exponentially. Although I’ve only spent about $2-3 on advertising, I can’t really assume that any of the other bloggers pay for advertising
.
It’s funny to see that when a blogger loses motivation and dedication, it isn’t just a mental problem, but also a physical problem. Some of you guys may be like me when I just flop around the house thinking about my blog, but knowing that I have failed in blogging.
If a blogger thinks this way, he/she fails nevertheless. A blogger really shouldn’t lose the motivation and dedication to continue blogging. Blogging takes a lot of time to master and it isn’t just a one day popularity thing. As long as you’re doing things correctly, following the tutorials on blogging, and providing your own great content, you’re bound to just rise up in no time.
I know I’m just touching the surface of this post’s topic, but I want some of you guys to think about blogging. There’s really no competition here if you love what you do. Be happy and continue to blog.
Do you lose blog motivation and dedication when you see others doing better?

Obviously it gets to me, but that just boosts my motivation and work. All the other blogs started out just like me, so I’m sure that it’s very normal to feel frustrated at times.
As long as you’re enjoying yourself and gaining more experience, then I don’t see where the problem is

As you have said losing motivation is common to most of us.The society around us is the main reason for this!.
Most of the top bloggers today started their blogs when there was no significant trend of “blogging to make money”!!.They have done their hard work at that time and are enjoying the success!.
Now,looking at them you shouldn’t drop tears!.Cheer up!.There’s always be a way if you have the will,so there’s always an oppurtunity for you too!.The main thing for you to do is to try ways to milk it.
Some things that can ride your blog to success:
1.Look at what your competitor/big blogs are neglecting(content related) and take them up with your writing!.
2.Write unique content and write for your readers.
3.Be patient in receiving returns….remember blogging isn’t about “make money fast” program!.
4.Most importantly, remember that for most of us bloggers “AGE IS ON OUR SIDE”.
And still if you can’t make it happen, realize that it’s not the end of the world.Blogging is all about spirit and patience man!.

Hi -
I think it is important to have goals, but we need to be realistic, and if we compare our performance to the hyper-active few that become A-listers, we can soon get discouraged.
I keep a log of the collective stats on my sites and I’m tickled to report that my little group of AdSense oriented sites jumped by over 115% from April to May. I found some easy to implement tricks and coded them in and ‘viola’ a most encouraging leap in visitor traffic (also income)!
So maybe I didn’t rank with the stars, but I sure got enormous satisfaction from comparing my progress to my goal - which was quite simply to ‘do better this month’.

I can say that I’m not a prof. blogger, but when I saw a blog which is nice and it is doing great I will take it as a challenge into my self..I will say to my self that I can do more than on that blog although I know my weakness at lease I try to compete in that blog..Let say think positive although you know your weakness.By doing some challenge into other blog you will learn…

Hmmmm I usually get motivated if I see new bloggers doing well in their bogging career. I know many other bloggers feel the same. I know they are also motivated to do better with their blogs to keep in pace with other successful bloggers.
The issue that I can see in other bloggers just like me is that their number one competitor is their own self. This means that they struggle in their blogs since they are lazy and they lack motivation that themselves can do. I think that should be the issue here. Keep yourself motivated and inspired and battle with your lazy thoughts.

For me blogging is just a way for me to express my thought every day. Some days I do it better than others. I’m not in it for the money. If I was I would have quit a long time ago.

Bloggers usually think that they’ll get popular overnight and if they don’t….Well, they give up.
As Mike Stated here” Learning really helps in the progress of a blogger”
It also helps if you post about a subject that you enjoy writing about.
Mike,
Great blog, and though you’ve been around a while, I just found it… proving your theory on ten blogs a day.
As for losing motivation… I can say sometimes a drop in motovation is casued by other bloggers, but not because they are doing “better”. Better is a relative word anyhow!
I read some of the material from the so called “super bloggers” and I simply can’t figure out what is so attractive about crappy affiliate filled posts, selling something to the masses.
I have a firm belief that followers of the bigger blogs are intrigued by what they see. They are inspired to aspire! People can only dream of making hundreds of thousands of dollars every month writing silly self indulgent posts about products they are paid to promote. I guess it’s a niche in itself but…
What happened to the old organic purpose of blogging? What happened to the old days where you HAD to post useful content in order to attract visitors? Let’s get real, if I put up a post of my swimming pool, people wouldn’t give a hoot. Same goes for Friday night dinner. So what makes the big guys different? Maybe it’s as simple as they were at the right place at the right time? Don’t know but watching the circus they call “helping people” is one hell of a way to de-motivate someone.
As a new blogger, I’ve got no paid advertisers, no sponsorships, and as of a week ago, no readership either. What did I do? I sure as heck didn’t post a picture of myself wearing some guy’s hat… I coughed up the CASH and bought some goodies to help promote my new little venture based on what my interests are. I’m not in the MMO niche and I’m not doing it for money but I am trying my best to be genuine and organic. I do it because I love the foundational meaning behind socialization. The entire point of the Web 2.0 movement. I love the idea that I get organic people looking for organic conversation that has to do with the blogging world as a social instrument as well as a conduit for earning a living.
In appreciation of my visitors and an attempt to build an organic reader base… I give things away that COST me money. If “Shoe” gives away a subscription, it’s likely one that’s been donated to him as a publicity stunt, not because he wants to offer his readership something useful and, not because he just thinks it’s a great idea.
Okay so this wasn’t meant to be a rant, it was meant to explain what does bother me… and that’s people who should be grateful for what they’ve got. Blogging is hard work as you already know better than most… so why is it that it’s guys like us that have to fight day in and day out to get noticed.
It’s sad that so many good useful content authors are washed away by the big guy for no apparent reason. That’s what makes me lose my motivation. - Sorry for the long comment, it’s a bad habit I’ve got!

What stinks is when you see a blog with exceptional content stay in the lower tiers, while blogs that produce junk rise to the top. In your niche, content is everything, but in some other niches, people just want junk content and not well thought out pieces. I guess it’s just a sign of the times.

@ Mike: You’ve just opened a can of worms with “…BLACKCHAT strategies are the way to rise…” LOL
I could get into a GIGANTIC debate about blackhat, but as we all know, stuff like that will always exist. What’s more disturbing is your acceptance and “implied” approval of it.
For a guy with over 1,200 subscribers, I’m not really sure that I would have staked such a claim. I as a new subscriber as well as a fan of legitimate, informative information find it to be a bit disturbing. Frankly, I’ve INSTANTLY become a little less comfortable with “trusting” your materials if such tactics may be used in the fore front of getting the upper hand… especially at my expense.
Yes, everyone to SOME degree, uses a method of blackhat, but to what degree and at who’s expense? The blog world is going to pay the ultimate price in a not to far off time, if “bloggers” continue to abuse the system. The system will fight back and start issuing more drastic punishments. In turn, the good guys, will again have to suffer at the hands of the bad… Again!!!
Supper bloggers have a major issue on their hands and it’s growing. The paradigm shift will take place and the community will realize that they are being abused and tricked. More importantly, their time has been wasted by useless information cloaked in a smidgen of truth… but for what? Another two dollar sale? How will a web of lies and deceit transform the online world to an actual community? Right now it’s a parasitic relationship and that really sucks for ANYONE trying to make it mainstream.
I honestly can’t understand how “bullshitting” your way through the system is a help to the people who count on you, support you, and feed your family in some cases! Re-read your “About Me” page… and then… read it again. What were your goals when you wrote that?
Now I might be VERY wrong, but I don’t really think that sleaze-ball tactics aimed at making you money, and tricking “your” community is bright.

Yes, I have lost motivation and dedication not only when people seem to be doing a whole lot better but life in general just gets so busy as well and the thought of trying to find time to blog bugs me and I start wondering what the point is and I lose motivation. I am at one of those points at the moment but this post has given me a boost and I am going to get back on that wagon. Thanks!!

I’m glad you’re not into that stuff and while I didn’t see anything obvious, you never can tell… I didn’t meant to jump your butt either… I just thought something was a little off about what I thought your comment was.
I told you in the e-mailI sent you the other day, your doing some cool stuff here, which is totally awesome in my book.
Maybe one day I’ll earn my way on here! LOL.
Thanks again Mike for clearing the air!

Shaxx I hope that you could have the time and energy since it is the main problem with us bloggers. As what is stated, just have some inspiration so that you would be motivated to continue this endeavor. Keep it up and you will be a big time blogger. Just stay positive even if it seems so hard to do
