I’m sure many of you have heard or purchased a Mars candy bar in the past or maybe the Milky Way, am I correct? The Mars candy bar is one of the original candy bars that was manufactured in the United Kingdom and soon moved to the United States as the Milky Way. Containing a similar recipe as the candy bar, Snickers, Mars is a chewy nougat bar that gets to anyone’s taste buds. With such a great taste, who would’ve thought the candy bar can be deep-fried?
What the heck is a Deep-Fried Mars Bar?!?
Many didn’t believe there was such thing as a fried Mars Bar and considered it as being a Scottish myth. A deep-fried Mars bar is just a ordinary candy bar that has been chilled, covered in batter, and then fried. This sugary delicacy is mainly served in those fish and chip shops and is rarely ever made in mainstream restaurants.
Emerging in 1995 in a fish and chip shop in the northeastern Scottish fishing town of Stonehaven, the deep-fried Mars bar is merely a bet between the shop’s owner and his friend. The shop is now called the “Carron Fish and Chip Bar“, run by Calum Richardson.
I haven’t seen any of these suckers being sold at local fish and chip shops in the United States, but it seems that Scotland is the only place to try one of these. At more than 400 calories per fried bar, I wouldn’t want to drool on these more than once. It’ll probably kill me the next time around and not to mention the deep-fried Mars Bar with fries.
$1.35 - Deep-Fried Mars Bar
$3.29 - Deep-Fried Mars Bar w/ Fries
Doesn’t this just look delicious? I don’t think so…but who knows, it’s the taste that matters.

Still don’t believe there is such thing as a Deep-Fried Mars Bar? This guy posted a video on youtube showing the process of making one of these 400 calorie heart stoppers.

I had the unfortunate pleasure of trying a deep-fried Milky Way once, as well as a deep-fried Twinkie. I’m not too sure which was worse.
I’ll stick with french fries.
No matter how hard I try, I just can’t imagine that would taste good.
“the deep-fried Mars bar is merely a bet between the shop’s owner and his friend”
Bet? Must have been to see who could come up with the weirdest food product that a customer would eat.

You can get them in some places in England too.
I had one once, kind of like a McDonalds Apple pie I thought. Just really sweet and srispy.
In fact we asked a lady in a London chip shop to make the one I tried and she did. After which her boss came out and shouted at her for it!!
@Common Sense - Well, I would probably try one too if they sold them here. I might try to make one myself
@John3 - LOL, you might be right.
@Forest Parks - LOL!!! Funny about how the lady got yelled at. I wonder why….

Not sure I’d want to try a Mars bar deep fried.
I was thinking the other day about how the candy bars changed from the two countries. Milky Way in the UK I like, the nearest to it in the US is the Three Musketeers bar.
@Michael - If I’m correct, Milky Way is the US version of Mars, which is from the UK. I don’t know if they still have Milky Way here though because I haven’t shopped for candy in years.
Last I recall, Milky Way had all the dark midnight chocolate flavors.
-Mike
Yes it is, whenever I go to the UK to visit the folks I stock up on the good candy.
I’m not into peanut butter and it seems every other item in the US has peanut butter or cinnamon in it.

that is very true. I love peanut butter, but too much of it gets me sick!

[...] having high cholesterol, but I do mean literally killing you. From the writer that brought you the deep-fried Mars Bar post, Bloggin-Ads.com brings you [...]
The thought of that kinda makes me want to vomit.
I work at a cafe, and I asked one of the chefs to deep fry one for me.
ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS
SOOOOOOOOOO DARN GOOD
Think chocolate donut taste. Tastes like a better version of that with caramel inside.
So, no they don’t taste gross.
