Divine Blogging Tips By The Bloggin-God

Have any of you ever had a dream or a situation where you feel that something or someone is in your mind telling you what to do? Well, I’m sure you’ve had something similar because I certainly get ideas in my dreams and even when I’m day-dreaming. Some of us that have some Christianity in us even sees God in our dreams leading us to a better future and teaching us what to do and what not to. I’m not Christian, so I’m going to say in the Blogosphere, there is no real God, but there is a Bloggin-God (no offense to all the Christians, I do apologize). As most people say, “Your best ideas come from dreams”. What would you learn from your dreams?

The Story

BobbyT has just started putting an advertisement program on his blog and was cursing the whole night after realizing how difficult it is to earn money online! He hardly earned $0.02 per 100 impressions. Grudgingly, he checked the advertising stats one last time and went to sleep. He had trouble sleeping that night, and when asked about it, he simply replied, “I think I saw Bloggin-God in my dream!”

BobbyT could hardly remember how the Bloggin-God looked like except that he seemed wise and rugged and had a big ‘G’ impression on his forehead. Below is an attempt by an amateur artist to reproduce the god’s image based on BobbyT’s description, minus the big ‘G’ on the forehead because it looked so much like Google’s ‘G’ that a lawsuit might just be imminent if blatantly illustrated.

Bloggin-God!

It now seems clear that BobbyT was chosen as a messenger to pass the following 8 idioms and their elaboration by Bloggin-God to the blogging masses so as to enhance their blogging journeys (8 being the symbol of prosperity by Chinese throughout the world):

1 ) Better late than never
It is never too late to start your own blog. You might even get a better result than others in a shorter time if you do it right. Likewise, you should start covering a hot story even if you are a little late. You never know what a small piece of a hot story might bring you.

2 ) Practice makes perfect
A successful blogger has to be well-versed in many skills such as writing, graphic design, blog promotion and template modifications. However, everyone is not born perfect. If you are weak at any particular skills, make sure you keep on practicing non-stop and improve you will. [Apparently the said god is a fan of Master Yoda!]

3 ) A penny saved is a penny earned
Do you know the secret of maintaining wealth? It is by being cautious and frugal about your money, not just by earning more. Any wealth will eventually come to an end if not well guarded. So, don’t simply spend your money online, if possible try to look for a free alternative. Free software, free hosting, and free advertising are all available. A case in point, Entrecard does a better job at advertising than some paid ones.

4 ) Haste makes waste
Don’t be too eager to expand your blog, without proper planning and strategies because you might just spoil the soup early on. Let it brew nicely and think twice before taking any actions. If you try to blog about too many topics at once, you might end up not retaining any particular group of readers. Likewise, if you pay to advertise your blog too early, you may end up losing more money than earning any!

5 ) (Don’t) Burn your bridges
You have heard quite some success stories on the internet and you are eager to start making filthy sum of money yourself, but don’t quit your job just yet to be a problogger. It is good to be motivated about being successful, but you don’t have to go to the extreme. If you insist, you can try to sleep less, watch less movies or even spend less time with your buddies to work on your blog. At least if your blog turns out to be a flop, you keep your job and only feel more exhausted. You can always reconsider this when your blog is generating at least a 4 figure income for you!

6 ) Don’t put all your eggs in one basket
There are many ways to interpret this. First, you can start multiple blogs, interlinking to one another, improve your chances of being found and recognized, and improve your earnings too through various channels. Secondly, AdSense is good, but it may not be suitable for all blogs. You can try out AdSense, but other affiliate programs and advertising companies are good too. Diversify your income and you will be more likely to succeed than to fail.

7 ) A shot in the dark
Aim for the sky! You never know what you could achieve, so don’t underestimate your own potential. Being confident and taking bold steps towards your goals is the way to go. If there is a contest you want to win or a big event you want to cover with your articles, by all means go for it! In the end you might not win the contest or you end up writing some below par articles, but the point is, it is fine. It is not exactly a tragedy, so rest assured knowing that through this activities you earned and learned something worthwhile.

8 ) (Don’t be) Penny wise, pound foolish
This is sort of the ultimate wisdom. In layman terms, it sounds like this; “Don’t do paid reviews”. If you have a steady income from your well ranked blog, make sure you don’t sacrifice the stable income for a one-time deal of insignificant paid reviews. You might get up to $50 in a single review but you could lose much more than that if you lose your pagerank.

Upon the preaching finished, the Bloggin-God turned and was about to leave in haste when BobbyT asked, “wait, why the hurry?” To which Bloggin-God replied, “I have got to click on some paid-to-read emails to feed my family, I don’t earn any money just by being a god!”

Very powerful insights indeed. Enjoyed the post.

Especifically I found “Penny saved is a penny earned”, most insightful. From what I see, most of the new people who make money online from their blogs are excited about the fact that they are making actual money from their blogs and eager to spend all of that money quickly and probably! It’s an easy come – easy go thing when it’s all transferred into the their paypal accounts.

And from what I know, I believe if a blogger plays his card right, he can never fail. The important thing is to have a defined strategy and supporting tactics that focus on building a better blog earlier on and then monetizing it.

Then again, just my opinion!

Hi, I don’t agree with your 1st item “Better Late Than Never” but I guess it depends on your niche. For example the Linux niche is pretty much saturated, there fore I do not want to blog about topics that others can read on other great Linux Blogs. I’d rather focus my time on providing information that is harder to find but thats just me.

Do you think I should change my ways?

@MindBlogger: I guess the hard part for a beginner is to play the right card and make the right move at the right time. I am trying my best to learn every step along my way now, by the way bookmarked your blog :)

@Owen: You should not change your way if you have no trouble getting and presenting the hard-to-get info, it will definitely make your posts more sought after and unique. If however you have a large fans following, let’s say you have 1 important news about linux, but there are 2-3 bloggers who has blogged about it, you can either link to and mention their post or just blog it in your own style again, your readers would appreciate it!

Shanker, Rohit and Mike,

You all have been really generous in your praises. It makes me ashamed that I have not achieved anything spectacular yet in the blogosphere several months after this guest post.

However I would keep on trying, hope to repay your faith in me and best of luck to all of us.
