I’m sure most of you guys have experienced a “Stumbled” post either to your own blog or towards someone else’s. Some of you seem to love StumbleUpon so much that you download their toolbar. For the ones that don’t know what the toolbar is, it basically allows your to THUMBS UP or THUMBS DOWN a blog/post, but it also allows you to “Stumble!“, which means you will just jump around the database of submitted posts/blogs. The only problem with StumbleUpon is they don’t make it fun for the users and the users don’t know what they type of site they stumble upon.

That’s all going to change because a great friend of mine, Max, has created a site that allows users to vote using beer bottles and it allows the reader to realize what he/she stumbled on. Before I start, you might have heard of this mastermind creator all over the net, but if you haven’t, he’s the creator of some very successful Wiki sites; OneBuckWiki, FiveDollarWiki, and QuarterWiki. Max also runs a very successful tech blog over at Zedomax, which I highly suggest you take a look at.

What exactly is SiteHoppin?

Before, I start, I would like to say that Max is trying to market the term “Hoppin” without the letter “G” at the end. What he is doing is exactly the same thing I’m trying to do by marketing “Bloggin” without the “G”. Hopefully this will work and users will start using these terms.

SiteHoppin is basically a social networking site that allows users to submit their blog or post into the database. The submitted URL is then viewed by people using the “SiteHoppin” strategy. Instead of bar hopping in real life, you’re SiteHoppin using beer bottles. As the Internet is going towards the Web 2.0, Max decided to go further with this Web 2.5 program.

How do I use SiteHoppin?

Similar to many other bookmarking sites, SiteHoppin requires you to sign-up for an account. After signing up, you will be able to edit your user page and that is what people see when they check who you are. Max was nice enough to help me do mine, but it shouldn’t be too hard for some of you experts to do the same. After all the troubles of setting up your preferences are over, the final part is to submit your content. Once the URL is submitted, your site will be on its way to visitors all over and that means more traffic to your site.

hop-logo.PNGIf you’re going to be the one that is SiteHoppin, all you have to do is click on the SiteHopping logo and it’ll bring you straight to a random website. hop-beer.PNGAs soon as you reach the “Hop’d” site, you’ll notice that there are beer bottles at the top. The beer bottles are for you to leave your rating before you hop another site. These ratings mean a lot because it’ll bring more viewers.

How does it benefit me?

For any blogger that understands the concepts of social bookmarking, then SiteHoppin is probably very easy to use. The way it benefits a blogger is that it brings in a huge amount of viewers using the “SiteHoppin” button, which would eventually bring up the blogger’s submitted URL. As you get more votes on your submitted URL, you will rank higher on SiteHoppin’s most popular links. Now I haven’t gotten a chance to get high up there yet, but just wait…I’m going to sneak myself up! Remember, you’re getting free traffic for doing nothing, but submitting your URL.

Some of you are probably wondering why I’m basing this post on another one of his creations and the reason is Max is a great friend and buddy. He has helped me a lot and I would like to return the favor. I hope you guys will check out SiteHoppin!

I love the idea but between Entrecard, Blogrush, Technorati, Stumble upon, Digg, and Blogging Zoom I barely have enough time to get any real work done. How about giving us an update in a couple of weeks to let us know how it is working out for you.

Site hopping looks like something worth trying when you’re bored. I’ll have to try it out sometime.

ray loesch » Well, you should trust me on this. Bigger sites like the ones you mentioned…well, they don’t give you as much traffic as the smaller ones. The big sites are very strict and no one cares when there are thousands of users using it each day. The smaller sites get more attention because there is a smaller group of submitted posts.

StanHayes » Make sure you do :)

Richard Bizick » Well, it’s free traffic and if you snooze…you lose.

Hey thanks Mike,

Your blog post is bringing us lots of extra users!

Bloggin-ads is where to get your site reviewed.

Maybe you can start reviewing non-blog sites more often.

max » I should, but I still want to focus on the whole purpose of this blog, which is to review blogs for free. I guess once in a while, I’ll make some exceptions :)
