When people ask you how big you are, it usually revolves about one thing. It seems like size matters now and it even matters to women when they decide if you’re suitable for them or not. Some people may have a big one, but some may have a small tiny one. Does it really matter though about how big your “INSERT HERE” is?

Whoa..Whoa…WHOAAA…! Hang on there buddy. We’re talking about how big your blogging portfolio is. What did you think I was going to write about in this post? Well, whatever you had in mind, you probably would’ve never though that this post is going to come out like this.

What is considered a blogging portfolio?

Lets start with the basics here and understand what a portfolio really is. There are many type of portfolios out there, but I’m going to base this on career work samples. People use these portfolios to organize, plan, and document sample works and skills. They’re then used to submit to a school or a job. Most of the time, if your portfolio is well organized or includes a lot of information, you (the submitter) usually receive what you’re seeking for. Well, a blogging portfolio is similar to this because if you wish to succeed in the blogging world, you must keep track of what you do for the blogosphere. It is basically like a diary, but you’re not keeping track of everything. Instead you keep track of what you have contributed to the blogosphere. These can range from hitting the front page of Digg to contributing a post to a blog.

Why is a blogging portfolio even necessary?

size-resume-168-x-80.pngHere’s where most questions will be asked because online is completely separate from what the real world is all about. A blogging portfolio is necessary because whether it is online or off, you would want to bring forward your professionalism in what you do. Opening a blog can always end up failing and even big blogs can fail because no one knows what might happen tomorrow. The portfolio you keep is what keeps the memories and allows you to find a place to work in the blogging world. You’ll be surprised at how many online media companies would want to hire you after you provide a decent portfolio of what you have done in the past. Yes, I do know it sounds like a resume…but it’s not. You’re keeping actual works of what you have done in this portfolio and they can easily be provided as a whole to whoever wants to view it.

How do I start putting together my portfolio?

There are just a 5 simple steps to organize everything together, but these steps may be simple or difficult and highly depends on what you wish to do.

  1. Have a document processor on computer or writing paper
  2. Document what you have done in the past or start now
  3. Jot down everything you for others or do it by the end of the day
  4. Make sure the portfolio is nicely typed up or written
  5. Make sure the portfolio is presentable online or offline

So how big is your “INSERT HERE” ?

This should be fun for some of you to work on and I would like to see what you guys come up with. I do admit I haven’t started on my portfolio yet and that is because I just had the idea for this yesterday.

Just remember that many of you probably won’t need to create a portfolio, but if you do, it’ll keep things very organized and you may easily find it in the future. It’ll not only be easier for you, but also easier for whoever is asking for your past experience. Instead of whipping out a resume, you can whip out your full portfolio. I’m not just basing this towards the online population, but also towards real life matters. Professionalism is the key and that is what some seek for. Am I approaching this matter correctly?
