uncooked fish is fine if it is very fresh, or what is called "sushi grade". You can really tell if fish is sushi grade especially tuna because it will have a deep, dark red color. If it's anything other than that...you better cook the heck out of it before you eat it.

I was just telling some colleagues about this yesterday and they did not believe it was so dangerous!

I don't think I would eat it, but I have suprised myself in the past!

Fugu is pretty good. I've had the opportunity to try it here in Japan ($75 for that darn fish, but well worth it when I get to tell the locals), and it's definately something that all seafood lovers should try at least once.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the same thing that Homer ate in an early episode of The Simpsons when they tried "something different" and went to a sushi restaurant :P

Homer: "Fugu me!"

Hi Mike,

The dead puffer only killed 3 other fish in the tank the first time. I thought there was an infection in that tank. The second time around 4 died and I made the connection between the two. I think some of the fish were either fugu chefs or immune to the toxin.

Frank C » Haha, I know what you mean about deadly town food :)

Interesting that you owned a puffer before, and even more interesting that you gave it another try after the first time it killed all your fish. Care to give the puffer fish a try? :) Just Kidding of course because Bloggin-Ads holds no responsibility for death.

You want deadly food? Waffle House in Mid-Town Atlanta after midnight on your average Saturday. Both the food and the patrons can be deadly. :)

Most puffers are toxic though. I used to keep a dwarf puffer in my tropical fish tank. If he died and the other fish ate him, they would die too. After that happened the second time, no more puffers.

James Wilcox » Yea, I gotta agree with you that the anticipation of dying is why people would try the Fugu fish. I could think of many things to do with $100 too, but I really want to try this dish. The only thing or should I say PERSON stopping me is my wife :(
