When I first saw bloggin-ads.com on the auction block, I felt that my online entrepreneur journey is about to take on another very exciting and successful leap. To be honest, I was a bit apprehensive about running a successful blog started by Mike Huang whom I’ve come to admire and respect – what on earth size shoes does this guy wears and how I’m going to fill it. These questions - insurmountable it seemed - were running through my head when I first began to ponder the decision of taking over his blog. For those of you who are familiar with me, my online endeavors up to this point have been devoted to static affiliate Websites and subscription based ASP. So, wherein do I muster the courage and the resource to run a blog, especially one that is of such high quality and has garnered praises all around the blogsphere. There got to be something in me that had wanted this badly. Yes, and I can tell you it’s not fame – Mike Huang already has his 5 minutes share of it. I must now admit that deep inside me, unbeknownst to myself at least initially, I harbor a secret desire to blog. You can say that I might have succumbed to all this hype of blogging taking the center stage of the Web 2.0 revolution or because I wanted to break free from my secluded world of writing static articles. Whatever it is, it didn’t take me long to decide to be the new owner of Bloggin-Ads.
Defining an objective for your blog
Today, I’m going to touch on the subject of defining an objective for your blog; I find this to be a fitting topic for my maiden post. This is because many of you may be wondering who I am and where do I want to take Bloggin-Ads.
I’m Stephen Lee, born and raised in Singapore; I’m now a naturalized citizen of Canada, putting between my Toronto home and New York City – talking about life on a fast lane J.
What kind of Blog are you ?
In any business, whether offline or online there need to be a clear objective – it is no different for a blog. Many businesses use the blog as a vehicle to promote themselves, provide useful information to their users; answer questions and gather information about their users or customers. Nowadays, you hear of the terms – Informational Blog or Content Blog or Hybrid Blog or eCommerce Blog or Lead Generation Blog. Most blogs nowadays are Content Blogs. If you decided to be a Content Blog, pick a topic to focus on, the more niche a topic is, the better search engine placement you’ll be rewarded with because of less competition. Whatever topic you choose, do not try to do too many things at once – this is the main reason many blogs fail because their readers are unable to identify with it. Here are the six simplest things that you can do to create an easily identifiable brand name for your blog:
- Main topic must be part of your domain name and keyword searchable
- Short catch phrase for your blog in less than 6 words
- Distinctive logo for your Blog, and make one for address bar as well
- Choose appropriate Categories
- Matching theme and colors scheme
- Landing Page Navigation leads to Main Topic
I only going to touch on matching theme and color scheme and landing page navigation as it relates to the chosen main topic of the blog, since the rest are quite self explanatory. A matching theme gives the look and feel of the blog that is consistent with the main topic. In choosing a theme, you would also want to consider the color scheme, the color your visitor see is going to create a mood for them, and enough research have gone into how mood affects a visitor conversion rate. For instance, Red evokes “passion” and “excitement”; Blue and Green brings “stability” and “calmness”; yellow and Orange represents “happiness” and “energy”; and Black is a dignified color traditionally associated with death. If your blog main topic is personal finance, you would not want to choose Black as your color scheme because it implies negativity and death in the context of finance. However, it will be an excellent choice for a Gadget blog since Black also denotes prestige and formality. To find out more on how color scheme plays on emotion in marketing, please see Zac Johnson Post.
Who say appearance is everything? If you’ve a very slick Landing Page but visitors can’t figure out what your main topic is – not only will they leave as soon as they arrive – contributing to a high bounce rate. They will not come back ever. I cannot stressed how important it is to have your main topic prominently displayed on your landing page or have easy navigation that lead visitors to the main or secondary topic.
Bloggin-Ads Objective
Bloggin-Ads is a Content Blog that focuses on the niche topic of “blogging”. To this, I must add that it first started out as a niche, but “blogging” can no longer be considered a niche as there are thousands of blogs like that. In short, it is a blog that blog about blogging. Fortunately for me, Mike Huang had done quite a helluva of a job building the foundations of it, and all I had to do is to build upon the success. And, I’m going to do just that. For those of you who are familiar with the origins of Bloggin-Ads, it started off with a bang by offering free top-notch Blog Reviews. In fact, its blog’s description stills says that. Though Mike Huang had recently stopped doing reviews, I’m going to continue to provide top-notch review to just about any blog that politely and courteously ask for it. You notice that I stressed the word courteous. By that I mean, if you take the time to write me a personally written request by providing a short description of what your blog is all about, I will more than likely obliged. The logic is simple - if you spend quality time writing up a request for blog review, I’ll give you the same in return. My motto in life has been– Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. So, for those of you who did not get a reply, don’t fret, just do it right the next time
I cannot tell you how thrilled it is to be part of this blog community and I’m driven by the notion of creating “blogging” content that will be of great interest to the community and to share and spread the wealth of knowledge.
I thank you all for giving me the opportunity to share with the community and I look forward to an exciting future here.

Welcome! and enjoy the blogging ride

You actually have it wrong when associating colors when it comes to finance. In finance, being in the black means you are now into the positive in relation with revenue. So when thinking of finance, being in the black is a good thing
Look forward to you on this blog.
Interesting first post, as it is filled with errors and you even linked to your own site wrong.

Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging. Glad that you got everything transferred over successfully. Mike used to make some really annoying link bait comments on my blog, but eventually he started to grow onto me. Very nice guy, just didn’t read the Blogging 101 manual before he started comment bombing all the blogs in our niche. Other than that, Mike become someone everyone associated with and knew.
With that said, you have in your hands a very decent blog. Already — and because you are new to blogging and might not realize this — a lot of eyes and ears are on your at the moment. A lot of people are curious to discover the direction and the what the future of this blog will carry.
With that said, I do welcome you but too I’d have to agree with the above comments. I’d like to believe that if I were in your shoes I think I would have done a little better with my first intro post. While I am not the best in writing and tend to screw up a lot, I do correct my mistakes and thank people for pointing them out to me.
One thing about Mike — aside from being a little pesty at times — is the fact that he took quite a bit of pride into his writing. He has published some really good things in the past, so I’d like to see that continue.
@ Mike,
Are you not fulfilling a commitment with your contest? What’s up with that? Sold blog or not, you should totally fulfill your commitments of the contest.

Welcome and best of luck to you. I loved your first paragraph and introduction, but you said blogging is a new experience for you and you are now giving advice to people on how to run their blog. Why should we take advice from someone who admits this is their first experience?

welcome fellow noobie blogger. the mistakes that you made in your intro post wasn’t bad at all. don’t understand what the fuss is about.
i take it that you’re a business type. and although you are new to blogging, you already have experience with affiliate and email marketing. be warned. blogging is time consuming and highly addictive. and you picked a tough niche to start blogging about. i personally think that paying around 5k was a bit high, but it’s not that bad considering that a brick and mortar business would probably cost around 50k. i wish you luck with you new blog and hope to see some nice posts in the future.
@mike- yeah dude. u gotta pay up for the contests. regardless of selling your blog or not, a deal is a deal. i take it that you will continue to set up new blogs. if you can prove that you paid out, i’m sure some of the negative vibe will be put out.
anyway, i wish you luck with your new blogs as well.
welcome.. looking 4ward to more of your posts..:P
