After talking about the value of RSS subscribers, I had a brain blast and thought about a new topic to write about. Now we all know that almost every blogger depends on the function of RSS subscribing even though the value of it may not be as high for some bloggers. I sure do hope you guys read the other post first before reading this one though. Anyways, since I consider RSS subscribing a thing of the past that is being cheated by a lot of bloggers, many bloggers have already found an alternative.
The latest or should I say the newest “e-mail subscribing” is now through newsletters. A newsletter for bloggers is a new way of gaining readers and subscribers to your blog, but indirectly. I’m not to familiar with the actual use of a newsletter, but I’m going to give it a shot.
Bloggers and money making bloggers do not always post all their secrets, strategies, or techniques in their posts. Most of these are hidden and I’m sure you know why. If these methods are given out publicly to every single blog reader and visitor, it wouldn’t be a secret any more would it?
This is where newsletters come in. Think of it as subscribing to a blog through e-mail feed, but at the same time, you’re not.
A blogger is going to gain a subscriber and a +1 feed count for gaining a newsletter subscriber, but only if feedburner and the newsletter service allows you to combine everything. It usually does, but the only service that I know is Aweber. However, Aweber does charge a monthly fee depending on how many newsletter subscribers you have. You could also check out Zookoda (thanks to TechJaws), which is a free newsletter service. It even has its own little chicklet code like the feed count ![]()
Some of you may start to think now that there’s no difference between subscribing to a newsletter feed and the regular e-mail feed. Well, newsletter subscribers don’t have to worry about receiving a bunch of new post e-mails. Newsletters are basically e-mails that are typed up by the blog owner to be sent out to the subscribers. It won’t go out to the feedburner subscribers, so there’s the part where it separates the two services.
I believe that the newsletter subscribing strategy is very professional and I’m sure that is why others also believe it’s a better service. The subscribers receive special information given by the blog owner him/herself. To lure you into subscribing, blog owners usually mention that there would be a free eBook or a free Wordpress theme for subscribers. Once subscribed, a service like Aweber would send out a automatic e-mail giving the promised item. ![]()
Most newsletters contain secrets to money making and I believe it’s a huge essential to any subscriber. While a regular feed or e-mail subscriber does not receive anything more than a new post being sent to the e-mail, newsletter subscribers are the only ones that would receive something different. You may even learn more from these e-mails than from the posts.
The use of newsletters to gain subscribers is a pretty good strategy to gain a huge fan base and readers base on your blog. It’s great because the subscribers will most likely continue to follow you no matter what new website you open. More bloggers are going towards this method of gaining subscribers and I’m thinking of adding this feature on my blog myself. The only problem is what would I write in the e-mail? ![]()
Have you subscribed to a newsletter before?

I have tried out newsletter and do offer snippets of information not found on my blog to entice the reader. Sometimes I do add in special “bonuses” for my newsletter readers. Aweber is good (although) getting more costly.. still haven’t decided on whether to switch to a more cost effective one.
I subscribed to your blog, just to enter your contest, but I won’t be one of those canceling now that the contest is over. I’ve enjoyed reading your posts, and am learning a lot about blogging from you. Thanks for all great ideas and info.
