See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil - Part 2
Education & Training, Everything, Miscellaneous Add comments
About 1-2 weeks ago, I posted a 3 part series called, “See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil” and it seemed like quite a hit to my visitors and subscribers. I even received a small spike in traffic from many social bookmarking sites, which included StumbleUpon and Digg. It may seem like I didn’t get much controversy around the post due to my comment count, but never let that fool you
Anyways, instead of having it as a 3 part series, I’ve decided to have this post wrap it all up. I’m sure some of my readers can’t wait any longer since I took so long on this post, but it’s all below.
Rumors Kill
Yes, I know that a huge majority of you spread some sort of rumor either on the net or in person. I agree that spreading rumors may be fun, but did you know that rumors kill? There are so many blogs in the blogosphere today that it isn’t just one group where all of us get together to share some tips & advice, but instead we all have our own “niches” to stay at. Of course we bloggers do catch up with other blogs that have different niches, but we seem to bring up thoughts in our minds about them, which results in killer controversial rumors.
For Example:
During school year, I hung out with my own crowd of friends that just sits around at lunch and goes home right after school to play computer games. My friends and I had nothing to do with the “popular” kids in the school, but we surely wanted to become them in one way or another. Because this is simply a task that we could only dream about (as kids of course), we resulted in talking to ourselves and spreading rumors. Well, my friends and I didn’t know what was true, but we still talked shit. Who did we talk shit about? The popular kids of course.
Take my example and picture bloggers having the same problem. We tend to spread rumors because of some sort of jealousy, but don’t realize that we may be wrong. I know that E-mail RSS feed is an important add-on to a blog and usually this is where rumors hit. A lot of lower bloggers are using the black hat technique of subscribing to theirselves via e-mail rss to gain high feed readership counts. With a little research, I was able to find out which blogs are sneaking this in, but we can’t always depend on it.
Do Not Assume
This brings us to the point of “ASSUMING” things. If you guys went through college with some English professors, you probably have heard of the term “ASSUME” being used in a way that some of us may still not know of.
ASSUME: ASS = U + ME
If you see from above, you will realize that “ASSUME” makes an ass out of you and me. Assuming things is always wrong no matter what some of us may think. I totally admit that I assume things to a very high extent and I end up being a dumbass when my wife, Michelle, proves me wrong
Assuming things go for everyone even when we least expect it.
For Example:
Angelina Jolie, the Tomb Raider chiq ;), walks on the red carpet with with skimpy tight dress. What she doesn’t know is that her dress makes her stomach look big, but the paparazzi is just going crazy over the snapshots without second thoughts. Most of the time these snapshots would be published in a magazine or newspaper the same night and will be on the stores/stands the next day. When the newspapers/magazines are purchased, there will be small and different snipplets for the snapshots of Angelina. These snipplets will go anymore from “Jolie gains some weight due to her upcoming movie” to “Angelina is expecting a baby in a couple months”.
As you can see from my example, people assume things no matter what. These assumptions aren’t even correct, but it brings me back to the point of “Rumors Kill” because rumors are spread with assumptions.
Many of us smaller bloggers, including myself, judge people differently because of their success, because of their content, or almost anything. I’m almost positive that you guys probably think that Mr. John Chow is a stuck-up ass that is making so much money and bragging about it. Well I admit that I have that in my mind, but oooops!!!!! We’re assuming things again because most of us haven’t talked to John personally, am I correct?
Make Friends, Not Enemies
This topic is the most important one if you wish to make some sort of success through blogging. Now I’m not talking about making money through other 3rd party affiliate programs or sites similar to that. I’m talking about pure blogosphere here.
I’m sure all of us bloggers wish to put some sort of dent on the net because we wish to be remembered as a SOMEONE and not a NO ONE.
For Example: I’m a daily reader of John Chow’s infamous blog and it was pretty interesting to me. As time went on, I noticed that his posts have no value at all and I start getting bored, but I don’t want to unsubscribe to his blog because…well, he’s “John Chow”. Reading it for another few months, I notice that his blog is getting worse and worse and I can’t take it anymore. The result of that is I make a post about him like the Bloggin’ Bitch one or include small snippets of how evil this man is.
Of course I’m not the only one that likes to slam others because Slam Blogger loves to make these types of posts to stir up some type of controversy. Some of you might say that controversy is good because it brings in traffic, but that doesn’t always happen. You might be lucky the first couple of times and get away with slamming others, but some “high-end” bloggers might dislike it and in return, you are their ENEMY.
The End
What is the point of my 2 part series? Part 1 describes how a blogger should listen to his/her viewers, while Part 2 describes how a blogger should keep thoughts to him/her to play it on the safe side. I’m curious on what you guys have to say about this?

You’ve just “sold” me on your blog, I was browsing through here earlier but got sidetracked, so thanks for throwin me a message, or else I may have forgotten about ya! I’m looking forward to getting my read on here.
Chica » You are officially “PURCHASED” by me!
Now go spam my blog everywhere

I confess I haven’t heard of John Chow but could U Imagine how much $$$ Money he would have made if AGLOCO was a Success!! ;))
Great Post!!
Peace*
Another fantastic read! Thanks for posting this one, I can not agree more about the making friends, it is not as easy as it sounds. Unless you are a “someone” or personally know a “someone” often times you are shunned, IMO anyhow. We all have to start somewhere, and I think thats what so many of the up and coming bloggers forget, they had to start somewhere.
It annoys me to no end that when you dilegently read and post comments, you get no return for it. That is arrogance, plain and simple. I am not saying spam comment, or over abundance of, just loyal readership and interaction.
Thanks for the link mike.
As for the blog, I know I haven’t posted in a few days. I’m working on something
Also, finances are driving me crazy right now and I haven’t been able to really sit down and pump out any more great posts, but rest assured, in a short time, more posts will start flooding in. There’s something wrong with my submission form for people to submit their slams, or requests. I’ll have to fix that… Keep it up with this wonderful blog you have here… 680 readers via feed. I’m catching up!
Three cheers and a 21-gun salute. You have a great site here, chock full of sage wisdom on the many idiosyncrasies of blogging. My field is exposing con men. About blogging I am a blooming idiot.
And, your “take” on assumptions is “right on.” I am really impressed by your insightful probing of all the make / break possibilities of successful blogging.
Stay in touch, if you are looking for clients. By summer I might be interested in taking on an internet marketing agent.
@Billy - Agreed, he would be making a lot more if Agloco worked…
@Sue - very true, and I’m glad someone agrees with me here.
@Ethan - Feeds don’t really bring out what the blog truly has to offer. There are tons of blogs out there with under 10 subscribers, but the content is great!
@Jack - Thank you very much. It’s comments like yours that allows me to move on further.
I’ve always been big on making friends rather than enemies. It’s great to see someone else promoting the same thing! Your other points are also spot on, great job!
680+ readers via feed is a pretty big thing to accomplish don’t you think? Of course there’s tons of blogs with under 10 subscribers, and Bloggin-Ads isn’t one of them.
Also, Threaded Comments are a good thing, Mike..
I have noticed the same thing with John Chows blog. His posts are becoming drivel and not really worth reading. I try to make my posts at least useful for people. But I’ll admit I do have my off days.
Great post, and great site.
@Ethan - took your advice on the threaded comments
@Ben - everyone have their off days, but for John…everyday is an off day
-Mike
Good stuff Mike. Threaded comments are much better than using that silly ‘@’ symbol. How do you aquire 40 more feed readers each time I visit? It was just 680, now it’s 719???? That’s great. Keep it up.
Got caught up in your post. Great blog! Im definitely subscribing
Cheers!
Make friends, I agree with that, but deal fairly with enemies as we are in the real world where some people will become enemies whether you like it or not.
Nice post! It as good character.
Blog’s most times reflect the character of their publisher. Regardless of the nature of the blog, the posts will have high integrity or not.
Now dependent upon the “niche” of the blog, the topic may be one that relies heavily on rumor and innuendo. Evenso, a blogger of substance will write their posts in a fashion that is not harmful to anyone.
Unfortunately though, I have seen that to drive more traffic to their blog, a lot of bloggers are really interested in posting with little integrity.
Great post. I added you to my blog roll!
Afew weeks ago, I ended up on john Chow’s blog and got stuck there: not by choice! The blog is so full of ads and sh@@ that it was just too much for my old cheap internet connection!
Well, I can’t say much about his content (too busy hitting my mouse like a mad woman to get out of there), but he does have a lot of bloggers talking about him; I will try to go back and read his older posts: thare must be some quality in there (or is it just lots of money spent on Adwords?).
I do like your blog though, I think I am starting to understand your strategy.
@ApplesH - Thanks!
@Ethan - I try to acquire it as quick as I can by using social bookmarking sites and I try to add a lot of people to my friends list. As for threaded comments, I removed it because it was having some problems, but I haven’t gotten the chance to check it out. Sorry.
@365 day - True.
@Nathaniel - Thanks
@Shelia - Also very true.
@Steve - Thanks!
@Junkie - I have ads here too, but I try not to go overboard. I place ads because I need money to pay for my hosting and offline services.
Yo!.
Thats funny….a lot of humor in it!!!.Really loved reading the Angelina’s part.lol!.But that is the way it is!!.
It is necessary to keep in the rumors…if your thoughts come out to be false more than twice,you should definitely lose readers!.Readers never feed on the wrong information for too much time!.
It’s okay to experiment as long as you have gained your readers’ trust!.
My last blog post is..Recent Google logos
