The Power Of Commenting

commenting power

Zack here,

Of course, as Mike mentioned earlier in “Do Your Readers ONLY Comment,” comments can sometimes seem untrustworthy. You can never really be sure if the reader actually read what you wrote or merely commented for the heck of it. However, commenting has a power all in its own. It attracts people to their blog and generates more views.

But how can you be sure the author knows your comment is meaningful and how can you use commenting to your advantage without seeming disloyal or untrustworthy?

Devote your time to reading the whole post. Even if you’re not completely interested, show the reader that you gave some time to read his or her content that he or she took the time to write for you. This will create a sense of trustworthiness, because you will include relevant information according to the post’s content and not just the title. If you don’t feel like reading the whole post, then don’t comment.

Create a connection

blog connectionAuthors want to know you’re getting the information from their blog and not simply, “using” them as a way to get more views. The golden rule can be used here, comment other’s blogs as you would like them to comment your’s! Being a blogger, you should know that short comments are less meaningful than the longs ones which show that the reader actually read the post. By reading the entire post and actually thinking before commenting, you create a connection with the author and sometimes the other readers. You show them that you read and understood the post and are looking forward to more great posts.

Create conversation

From the connection, comes conversation. Although a forum is designed for the conversation aspect, some bloggers do not have a forum of their own and can only converse through posting. The more a reader comments and attempts to converse, the more they create loyalty and commitment. This shows the author that you are interested in his writings. Many times, when readers and authors create a connection of sorts and conversation, they reverse roles so that they both contribute to each other’s blogs, creating more loyalty and more views.

Continually comment

Keep on trucking. The more you comment, the more the reader knows you’re, at the very least, getting something from his or her blog. Eventually, the author or other readers will read or comment your own blog as well.

Be intelligent

Don’t write crap. So many times, I have had bloggers write comments that may not even relate to the content, but merely the title. Other times the only responses I receive are short notes that are meaningful, like “great post,” but leave me wondering if they actually read the post or not. This creates a distrusting feeling towards the reader and the chance of the author linking to your own blog diminishes. Rather than just merely posting, “Great post” or “Great reminder”, think of something creative. Not only will it help the reader, but it will also help you.

I actually think its better not to leave a comment if you aren’t constructive or inspire feedback or thought. At least you get a bit of credit when you do finally comment, instead of the , oh dear , theres wally commenter again, wont even read it. I also notice some people cheat and just read the few comments above the last comment to formulate their comment, which is a bit lame also.

I have known and seen many commentators who are very good in building conversations :) I just dont understand why many people dont read the actual post and they run down the page to leave an useless comment.

It is nice to know that someone has taken the time to read your entire post, not just the highlights. However, there are times when the post itself rambles on incoherently. (no, not yours), and it’s easy to get lost while trying to read the whole post.

As a blogger, I love reading the “real” comments. But as a commentor, it is kind of unnerving when you leave a nice comment and never get a response from the poster.

Anyway Zack, this is a great article. From beginning to end.

i agree with all the points you’ve mentioned Zack ..
but read the post even if i’m NOT interested !!

as -paul said ..

i don’t think it’s better wasting the time reading something that won’t do any good for me . and above that . commenting it !
i’m used all the time online and i know that reading means commenting , either asking for something in that post or even thanksing the poster for that info .

Not entirely true.

Short comments but simple, precise and straight to the point is not less meaning than the long ones. -_-

But there is one more thing i would like to tell you Zack.. You have made a blog and are writing matter for people to read it actually, and if most of your commentators are just commentators and not real readers, that would mean that your content is not that understandable or is something that really bores your visitors.
So keep thinking about your mistakes too.

Sometimes the shorter comments that come across as well thought out are the best.

Well short comments can be deceivingly categorized as spams of useless stuffs. However, I believe that it is not the length of the comment that we should focus on but t should be more on the content of the comment and how it is related to the topic posted… right?

Most of the time if I feel like I can’t add anything useful to the post in the form of a comment I will not leave a comment. One thing I have always wondered about post like this is that aren’t you in a way also encouraging a bit of spam if people feel the need to comment but don’t know what to say?

This is the first time I read your post here Zack because I m also new here…it is very straight forward and not long enough for one to read…For me, I only comment if I really need to give a response or I want to build relationship with the blog owner…but most of the time, I commented from my heart…but one thing, sadden me though….I only get a few blogger to visit my blog as I visit them…some even put, You comment, I follow but I never see their comments on my blog or even reply to my comments…so, lesson learned here…never expect anything big when you leave a “sincere” comments on other blog…

You guys are seemed to be talking more about the length of the comments rather than the actual matter in the comment. I never take the comment length into consideration to see whether to take it as a spam or not.

@ Mike that’s the sad truth about the internet as spammers could really trick you. Some they have revised their style to make their comments more appealing giving us a notion that they are true and informative comments when in fact they are not. It is very difficult to know which is which nowadays

Every blogger should know comments make a blog popular (it’s a great motivator to keep on writing)! It promotes more pageviews and a better way to connect with the readers for sure. Comments will make every blogger happy (unless it’s spam or very negative)!

Wonderful tips,Zack!!.
That would mean more clarity for commentators!!.

It’s quite hilarious that on some blogs I saw comments pointing the author as “she” when he’s male….sometimes changing his name…..sometimes like-”great post, author” when the post is actually written by a guest!!!.
It’s quite funny that some people don’t even take some time to know the gender of the author!!!.
