The Secrets Of eBooks

useless ebook

Trying to make some sort of impact online and even in person is a very very difficult thing to do. There are soooo many different type of businesses in the world, so trying to come up with something new is usually a dream. If you open up a blog, your blog has to be significantly different for you to gain more readers. If you open a convenience store, you must give better rates or different items than other convenience stores. So to sum things up, if you want to gain popularity or earn your image, you would need to create something out of yourself. Remember you want to come up with something that is worthwhile to your visitors and that means you can’t just come up with worthless crap.

eBooks

ebook secretsWriting an eBook seems to be every bloggers’ interest these days. Blogs that don’t even provide any sort of content through the articles are trying to market their own eBooks. So what is an eBook? An eBook is basically a book that is read through a .PDF file viewer. Most of the time, you would use Adobe Reader to read these and it is pretty much like a real book. Now a blogger writes up an eBook usually to summarize all the techniques or strategies that were used on a certain thing. For example, we’ll take John Chow’s eBook and Aaron Wall’s SEO eBook. Both eBooks are very successful because both of them discusses strategies on how to make money or how to optimize your blog to the full potential. John’s book is free, while Aaron’s cost money.

Do you think free is better or paying is better for an eBook?

Why Are There eBooks?

Affiliation Sales -

why ebookAlmost all paid eBooks I’ve seen have some sort of referral or affiliate system. What this sort of system does is it allows buyers of the certain eBook to have a referral link. You then go out to spread that referral link virtually or physically anywhere your heart desires. It is usually easier to refer online since anyone interested wouldn’t have the need to type that long referral link, which usually goes like this, “http://worthlessebook.com/?r=35lkjasdf”.

So now if someone was to sign up under your referral link, you would usually gain back 75-90% of the purchase price, which means you only paid 10% of the price of the eBook. Sounds great doesn’t it? This strategy lures you in to make your initial principal back for the stupid crapped out book you purchased. You basically buy an eBook thinking that you will become as successful as the writer him/herself. You can most definitely try to do it because I’m not trying to discourage you, but I know that most have failed. The actual secret of making that $5,000 a month in income is to do it through affiliation sales.

Why do bloggers decide to write an eBook anyways? There are free eBooks almost everywhere online, but why are some eBooks priced from $10 to $100 per licensed copy? Now you know the biggest reason why and it is because of these type of affiliation systems.

The Catch -

cheap ebook

I’m sure you love it when you get e-mails with the same type of subject as the image above. I get spammed heavily by these type of offers. They all point to similar type of sites and you will end up on a page where you would have to pay to learn more. Every eBook writer is supposedly trying to teach some sort of secret to making money online, or SEO tactics, and stuff like that. There is no need to follow these eBooks to become successful. I’m going to say it again and again that Google is your friend when it comes to finding free articles on how to do what you’re seeking for. It’s great that the owner of these sites supposedly made a few thousand dollars in a short amount of time, but not everyone can do the same.

The catch is to lure you in by giving you free updates on newer revisions of an eBook or “SPECIAL” member-only type of events. It is all bull crap because when a blogger decides to write up an eBook to sell, it means that the information isn’t really that useful. Sooner or later, the people that have purchased these books will summarize the tips on their own blog for free. I know I’m assuming but hey, ask yourself if you’ve ever learned anything from these type of books where you can’t learn elsewhere…

The Image -

Lastly, writing an eBook boosts up a person’s popularity. Look at Aaron Wall and his “SEO Book” (no it isn’t a referral link) for a second here. No one knew about him until advertisements were placed everywhere with referral links. As referral links were clicked on and people signed up, more started popping out. Let me tell you a secret…you can find these paid eBooks on Google for free. I found the SEO Book ;) . But what he did was smart. There may be haters that learned jack from his book, but because of this, he has gained huge popularity throughout the blogosphere. People now know him as the guy that wrote the “BOOK” instead of an average guy on the Internet.

Writing Your Own

stinky ebookThere are many topics to choose from when you decide you want to write an eBook. A few weeks ago, I had a guest post submitted by IMoneyOnline with step by step instructions on how to write an eBook. Since the instructions were already given, I’m not going to discuss it in this post. Instead, I’m going to discuss how you shouldn’t write your book, but it may seem very similar, so I’m sorry :P.

If you choose to write a “make money online” topic type of eBook, you have already failed. Instead of your eBook stinking like shit, it is going to stink and be cheesy. When you’re writing your eBook, think about if the information you’re giving is necessary? People don’t want to waste their times reading eBooks that are the same. As much as people love the thought of money, you wouldn’t want to scam your fellow bloggers with stupid information.

If you blog about making money online, you could write about how money affects a person and how certain “tips” will fix the problems. Basically what you want to do is summarize some of your own unique posts and wrap it all up in a 10-30 page eBook. This will actually give you more results than if you were to give different type of tips.

Make sure everything is free because if it is paid, it makes another reason why it will be posted elsewhere for free :)

Mike, this write up will help me and others a lot. This is I believe the first time, someone has really explained in simple English what are ebooks and their worthiness. I will also try to write one but not now; may be after 6-8 months.

Thanks. By the way, I have already subscribed to you. Have you done the same for me?

Mike, your readers might also be interested to know that there is a whole new way to easily generate revenue from their PDFs: with ads!

Adobe recently launched into beta a free service that matches web-based ads to your PDFs and the publisher will get paid on ad clicks. For more information you can check out:

Interesting view about Ebooks. It is true about the spamming by various mailing list on how to make $XX in the shortest amount of time.

Since you do not really support the idea of selling an e-book for profit. What then would be your ‘ideal’ way of profit generations via your website??

Making money on your website should only be done after you have received enough exposure and enough visitors. Too early is going to drive away visitors :)

Anyways, ads would be the start. I’m not telling you not to write an eBook, but if you want to, write a GOOD one.

OMG - Talk about it.. I am sick of the e-book pages that pop-up telling the same thing about how I can be a millionaire in one month. People still fall for them. That’s why they are around so much. Nevertheless, there are a few innovative approaches to writing e-books that I had seen popping up recently..

And I totally agree with you - you can never replicate another person’s success.

Cheers!

I’m glad you agree with me and I understand your frustration with all those pop-ups. Look…even John Chow accepts those advertisers..

Wow!.

Quite an interesting post on e-books.Hey I don’t think e-books are only in .pdf format!.They can be in other formats too…

And answering to your question, for me quality matters when deciding upon an e-book!.If the cost is too high I am likely to drop the idea of buying it!.
