What To Send Out In A Newsletter

send email

A few days ago, I did a post on RSS e-mail subscribers being the past and newsletters are the future, but if you wish to send out newsletters, you would still need to know what to write.  It’ll be a laugh on you if you decide to gain newsletter subscribers, but you send out newsletters that are full of crap and bologna. It’s just like sending a marketing letter to someone’s mail box.  If I don’t explain much in the letter, I probably would lose a potential lead to my business.

I’m sure I now have your attention as you wouldn’t want to mess up your blog by sending out newsletters in the wrong fashion :-P .

As I mentioned before, newsletters for bloggers are a form of communication from the blog owner (sender) to the subscriber (blog reader).  It’s different from regular e-mail feed subscribing and there are even more differences if you think deep about it.  E-mail feeds would usually spam the subscriber with daily blog post updates.  I mention it’s spam because a high percentage of e-mail subscribers do not really read their e-mail feeds.  I take this on my personal experience, so I’m not sure if any of you have more success.

Having a newsletter option would allow a subscriber to subscribe without worrying about a bunch of e-mails that is basically the same as if he/she was to visit your blog homepage.  Ok, so now I mentioned a bit more about newsletters again, I should tell you that you may not always be sending the correct type of information.

Do remember that a newsletter subscriber is a subscriber because he/she wishes to learn more in depth material that is not ever mentioned on the blog.

Ideas

First things first and that is to think of ideas on what to send out in a newsletter.  You must attract a subscriber with the type of newsletter you send out.  Below is a few tips or ideas that I thought of, but you may think different depending on what you do on your blog (niche).  It’s very difficult to attract a newsletter subscriber as it would be for a e-mail feed subscriber, but the newsletter strategy allows you to throw in a bonus ;-)

  • bright ideasFree item - a lot of bloggers have had much success with giving away a free item for a person that subscribes to the newsletter.  Items could range from a free Wordpress theme to some very valuable eBooks.  As long as it’s free and the newsletter subscriber does receive it, you should be able to keep that person as a valuable asset to your blog :-)
  • Making money - since making money online is a huge favorite, you could provide your own strategies and techniques to making money online.  Provide a special e-mail to your new newsletter subscribers and teach them how to make money online.  Make sure it’s something that has never been mentioned on your blog, which would make it different.

Is it worthwhile

After realizing how to obtain subscribers and what to send out in the beginning, you must make sure your future newsletter e-mails are worthwhile. Remember that you should not send crap that you definitely know your subscribers would not be interested in.  This includes advertising, promotions, or anything that costs money.

Think about it this way, think of something to send out that you would personally enjoy receiving in your e-mail inbox.  You could even hint your subscribers through your blog posts that you would be sending out something special.  This would surely get some attention.

When to send it

Make sure that you need the e-mails a bit consistent.  You wouldn’t want to send one out every single day, but I suggest sending one out about once a week just to keep your subscribers busy.

There are only 3 things I would actually follow and that’s the main things I had to share with you guys.  This is assuming that you have already implemented the newsletter subscribing method into your blog.  If you haven’t yet, you should really do that first before you have concerns about this post :-P

Personally I don’t want to have tons and tons or any email from blogs. I have my RSS-reader for that.
