You Are A Techie When Your License Plate Says So

Computers have been around longer for over 15 years now and not to mention that the Government used computers way before us normies received this type of technology. After a few years of computers roaming around with those ginormous diskettes, compact discs were developed and widely used by the public. Now the Internet to me is actually the thing I think is the best development ever by mankind. With the Internet in place, there are no end points and ideas are basically endless. Because of the huge population in the world, technology just develops with a blink of an eye. Even if you think you are going to develop a new website, like Sitehoppin’, you gotta think again. Someone is probably thinking what you are at this split second and that is why you have to train yourself, which takes years, but worth every bit of time.

Why is my title like that do you ask? Well, you aren’t really on your topic unless of course you name your license plate after your own business. This is what JoeTech did and he’s living his name as most of you already know.

Background - Joe’s About Page

techie-about.jpgJoe is a married man in his 30s living with his wife in Phoenix, Arizona. He is such a techie that his Honda Civic’s license plate says “JOETECH”. This is the first time I’ve heard of a person naming their license plate after their blog :). Why doesn’t John Chow do that to his cars? Anyways, besides the JOETECH blog, he is a co-founder of two different companies, but it isn’t even talked about in the about page :(
As most of you already know, a blog owner’s most important factor to running a successful blog is to provide the necessary information through the about page. I’m sorry Joe, but your about page just doesn’t hit the spot, so I winged it and used the information you provided.

A techie is always a technie

Joe is such a geek that he created a Entrecard slots and an ad space slot machine right inside his blog. I don’t know about you guys, but something like this takes a bit of time to get the coding correct. I know jack about coding these type of scripts, but it seems so easy for Joe. I guess he’s not the average Joe huh? These slot machines are no different than ones you see in a casino (online or off), but instead of winning real cash, you get the chance to win Entrecard credits or advertising spots on JOETECH. The biggest difference is all the winnings come out of Joe’s pocket because he doesn’t charge for any of this. I’ve given it a try and I won a few ad spots and some ECs :)
$100 monthly giveaway

This giveaway is actually the smartest linkbait technique I’ve seen so far. Yea, it’s $100 being given away each month, but the expenses are actually split amongst 8 total blogs, which includes the big names below:

I’m not sure who came up with this strategy, but I’m assuming it was Joe since after digging up some traffic results from the past month, Joe received the most traffic from this. You could take a look of the contest here, but it ended at 12AM earlier today, so stay tuned for the next ones. The only problem is, it is pretty hard to get all the entries in, since you would have to get in on all the prize sponsors to get the most of it.
What’s so great about JOETECH?

Joe does almost everything purely at his own expense and that’s what I love about him (love in an unaffectionate way :P). My blog was reviewed by him back in December 16th and I haven’t even returned the favor until now. I felt so horrible when I was typing this post because I totally forgot that he reviewed my blog for free! Yes, that’s correct, reviews are done for free on JOETECH because he focuses on preserving the integrity of his blog. Similar to Bloggin-Ads, Joe also had to change the rules a bit and be selective when it comes to reviews. I mean come on, some of the review requests I get are just horrible. I do follow the topic of this blog by reviewing all blogs, but some of the requests I get aren’t even blogs. They’re more like a page of ads. Ok sorry for that vent, but if you’re interested in a free review from Joe, go for it.

Besides all the free stuff that is provided on this blog, I do manage to get a daily good read from here. The posts are quite informative and it teaches you some things here and there, but here are a few posts that I deem excellent:

The critique

  1. Contact page is there, but a contact form is needed immediately. Without a contact page Joe, you will lose a lot of viewers because some may think it is too difficult to contact you. You’ve mentioned you will get the form up, but it hasn’t been done for a few months now.
  2. Search widget or area is needed for easier navigation. It was difficult for me to find some posts that I’ve read and liked back a couple months ago.
  3. Theme is very unique and it works great. Nothing is cluttered, but I think you can replace some of your sidebar items with other stuff. I’ll leave that to you of course.
  4. You have a $100 monthly contest running, but it’s quite difficult for some people to realize it, so you should get the word out somehow (not the small link).

Alright, that wraps it up for the JOETECH review. Make sure you guys check him out and hopefully you will subscribe to his blog. Not only are you getting good daily content, but you’ll also get an entry into the $100 monthly contest.

@Mike Huang:
Compliment:
Good write up!
Good mix of images, sub-headers and wordings!
Not too long, not too short, just right!

Criticism:
Sadly, can’t find of anything wrong with the above article to critic it. -_-
This either means your article is just that good, or I need to improve my criticizing skills. O_O

Understanding:
If I remembered correctly, you do blog reviews for free, aye? Personally, I feel that you did a good job reviewing Joe’s blog with this article of yours.

Question:
Would you be interested in reviewing my blog one day? :p

Mike: Thanks for the wonderful review. I’m working on that contact form, your other suggestions, and some re-organization, too.

Max: Logo Samurai did a great job with that logo.

Shanker: The 2001 post was backdated just so it could be the first one. I have had JoeTech.com for over 10 years, but the blog is just since 2006.

BobbyT: Thanks!

Billy: Sadly, I paid a lot more for my Sony because I trusted the name and then it failed me within a year. If I can manage it, I’ll probably buy a Dell at some point sooner than later.

I like the license plate thing. :)) I guess http://www.joetech.com would have been too much for a plate..

As for the Sony, I’d never buy that. A Dell is a much better solution. Same quality but way cheaper!
